About

Aarhus Protein

Aarhus Protein was founded in 2013.

Aarhus Protein employs approx. 30 employees, mainly in the production of plant-based proteins.

Aarhus Protein’s product range and capacity are being continuously expanded, and we expect this trend to continue in the coming years, so that we can meet the increasing level of demand from both Denmark and abroad.

Our plant-based proteins are used by international food producers in the production of meat alternatives, dietary supplements, bakery products, high-protein bars, etc.

We also supply plant-based proteins that are included in feed mixes for fish and farm animals.

Behind Aarhus Protein are two family-owned companies, Fredericia Shipping A/S and Copenhagen Merchants, who have been supplying products and services to the Danish and international agricultural sector since the 1980s.

Plant protein is the future

More and more consumers and food producers are emphasising health, lifestyle and the environment, so interest in using more climate-friendly protein sources is becoming increasingly widespread.

Aarhus Protein is actively participating in developing the food of the future. Today, we are among Denmark’s largest companies within the area of converting peas and broad beans into nutritious, sustainable food and high-quality animal feed.

Our customers are leading international food producers who use our products in meat alternatives and dietary supplements, bakery products and high-protein bars. You will also find our plant proteins in sustainable feed mixtures for cattle, pigs, poultry, and fish.

We base our production on climate-friendly raw materials – typically peas and broad beans – harvested in Denmark, the Baltics, and Northern Europe.

Our ambition is to expand with more new products and greater capacity. In the coming years, we expect to expand our production and workforce at our factory in the Port of Aarhus.

Vision

To make climate-friendly and sustainable plant-based proteins accessible to all.

Mission

To develop and produce climate-friendly and sustainable plant-based protein products for human nutrition and animal feed, and to find optimal uses for by-products.

The rising population, economic growth, and increasing purchasing power in the world, and not least the increased focus on health and lifestyle, will cause the global demand for protein to rise significantly. To meet this need and at the same time take into account the environment and sustainability, more vegetable proteins will be needed – both for food and for feed products for animals and fish.

The plant-based proteins we develop and manufacture at Aarhus Protein contribute both to more eco-friendly foods and at the same time provide solutions to current climate challenges. We work continuously to use by-products optimally and thus contribute to both the circular economy agenda and the UN’s global sustainable development goals.
